Convalescent Plasma Does Not Reduce The Risk Of Intubation Or Death For Hospitalised Patients.

Patients who have been infected with the virus have a very different antibody profile when antigen rapid diagnostic tests are done, which may impact how well they can respond to the medication.

A recent study found that patients with COVID-19 who received convalescent plasma treatment did not experience a reduction in their risk of death or intubation.

Initially, there was hope that the blood plasma from COVID-19 survivors could benefit those severely ill from this virus. But unfortunately, this wasn't the case, as stated in a statement. Researchers advise against using convalescent plasma for COVID-19 patients unless they are part of a carefully monitored clinical study.

According to the trial's website, after the CONCOR-1 clinical trial's data safety monitoring committee determined that convalescent plasma would not be beneficial, recruiting ceased in January 2021.

Researchers also discovered that convalescent plasma patients had significantly more severe adverse effects than those receiving conventional treatment.

These occurrences were mainly due to an increasing need for oxygen and worsening respiratory problems. Statistically, the incidence of fatalities was not different from that in patients who didn't get blood.

Researchers discovered that convalescent plasma could significantly impact the outcome of patients who required intubation or death. Due to the variability in the immune response to the virus, convalescent plasma had significant variation in the concentration of donor antibodies. Negative antibodies were defined as low antibody levels, non-functional antibodies or both. They are linked to a higher risk of death or intubation.

As per research, these findings may explain the seemingly conflicting results between randomised studies that found no benefit and observational trials that showed better outcomes with high titer product relative to low. Low-titer convalescent blood plasma might be harmful rather than helpful, while high-titer plasma may prove to be beneficial.

CDC Analysis:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that people who have been vaccinated lower their risk of COVID-19 death by more than tenfold.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published the results from a study showing that COVID-19 immunisations remained highly effective in reducing hospitalisations and mortality rates, even after the Delta variant was identified as the predominant strain.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report, it is strongly recommended that everyone get their COVID-19 vaccination, which includes the Delta variant. Also, monitor COVID-19 status by monitoring COVID-19 infected individuals. It may give early warning signs of vaccine-related protection changes that well-controlled vaccine effectiveness studies (VE).

The study was conducted in 13 jurisdictions from April 4 to July 17, 2021. Non-vaccinated people were five times more likely than others to contract COVID-19. They were also ten times more likely than those who had been vaccinated to be admitted to the hospital and more than ten per cent more likely than those who died from the virus.
