Different Levels Of Ultrasound During Pregnancy
Understand the intent of your scans
Very little can be compared to the unique moment when you first see your infant on a sonar scan and you take the pictures along with you. You can check out the cost of anomaly scans in Chennai and confirm with your doctors or healthcare practitioner. Ultrasound scans use sound signals to create a view of your baby in your womb. The image is reflected on the monitor and the fetus movements are analysed.
Most scans are conducted by a trained health professional called a sonographer. These scans are pain-free and there are no risks to you or your baby. However, it is important to remember that an ultrasound scan is a medical technique that helps the health care provider to view the fetus, monitor its development and growth, and screen for any anomalies.
3 Stages of Ultrasound Scan
The First Trimester Scan – 6 to 12 Weeks
Verify that the fetus is in the uterus, thus excluding ectopic pregnancy.
Affirm that there is a yolk sac and a fetal pole inside the gestational sac, depending on the gestational duration. An empty sac may be the product of late ovulation, which indicates that conception is potentially 'younger' than predicted, or may suggest that there was a concern in the initial phase of development.
Note the existence of a fetal heartbeat. It's a special moment when the heartbeat is recorded as a tiny flash in the fetal pole. This is generally visible from five and a half to six weeks.
The Second Trimester Scan – 18 to 24 Weeks
A comprehensive anatomical scan is conducted by monitoring the development of both organ structures and the physical structure of your infant. A full structure is seen and visible at this point in pregnancy, including every finger and every foot. The brain and cardiac anatomy are analysed in detail and the position of the placenta is specified to identify the placenta praevia, a placenta lying beside or above the cervix that may lead to a rupture of the placenta from the uterus, leading to bleeding and abortion or to premature labour. The level of amniotic fluid is measured when any signs or abnormalities are associated with very much or too little.
The Third Trimester Scan – 30 to 36 Weeks The fetus ultrasound scan is done during the third trimester of pregnancy with the assistance of an abdominal sensor during pregnancy weeks 34-36. At this stage of development, the fetus has all essential organs fully formed and the process of accelerated growth and development begins. The size, maturity, and location of the placenta in the cervix are measured during the ultrasound scan.
